CHRISTIAN DEVOTIONAL -THE HOUSE OF FRUITS

CHRISTIAN DEVOTIONAL

THE HOUSE OF FRUITS

When we sow, we want to reap, at no time do we pretend to leave empty-handed.

THE house of fruits is the translation of the word Bethany when consulting it from the Hebrew. There is a phrase that dangerously brings us closer to being very liars, and it is: "I do this without expecting anything in return." Everything we do in life, good or bad, will bear fruit. Therefore, although we fill ourselves with grandiose phrases when we utter that we do not expect anything, we do, because within us are the gifts of the sowing and the harvest. These gifts were given to us when God breathed (Ruach) the breath of life from him into all human beings. So, if we as human beings hope to reap when we have sown, how much more would God have to be waiting for, who gave himself as a ransom for all past, present, and future humanity?

“And Jesus entered Jerusalem, and into the temple; and having looked around at all things, as he was already evening, he went to Bethany with the twelve."

Mark 11. 11

Apparently, Jesus Christ expected to find fruit in Jerusalem because she had been given so much. But when Christ arrived at the temple, what did he find? We could see the answer between the lines, therefore, finding nothing, that same afternoon he travelled the five and a half kilometres that separate Jerusalem from Bethany, apparently to find in the house of the fruit, what his being was looking for.

"The next day, when they left Bethany, he was hungry."

Mark 11. 12

Did Christ find what he was looking for in Bethany? Did Jesus Christ find any good fruit in Jerusalem? What will happen today when God comes and demands fruits from us? Are we prepared for God to use us and bear fruit that will satisfy the hunger of the rest of humanity? Can the people around us find the image of Christ in us acting on his behalf? How clear do we have the panorama of our existence so that we are those trees that both God and others can trust?

God bless you.

CHRISTIAN DEVOTIONAL - GIVING THE BEST OF YOU

CHRISTIAN DEVOTIONAL

GIVING THE BEST OF YOU

We will never give God the best of ourselves if it is not through a divine gift called “excellence”.

EXCELLENCE, according to the RAE (Royal Academy of the Spanish Language) is something or someone of superior quality or goodness that makes it worthy of singular appreciation and esteem. We find several verses that tell us that there is only one righteous and this is Christ, therefore we cannot pretend to believe that we are excellent in everything we do, we simply do the best we can. Another measure in which we usually make a big mistake is to consider that the quality of our work should be equally imitated by all (if we believe that we are worthy of such a high distinction). Therefore, this will cause in us frustration and obviously conflict with the people around us because each human being is a world apart and although God treats his Church in a general way, when dealing with the human being, he is very specific. When Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem triumphantly, all the people around him set their hearts on him and gave him the best that each one had.

"And they brought the colt to Jesus, and threw his cloaks on it, and he sat on it."

Mark 11. 7

For city dwellers, I would like to comment that equestrian animals smell bad when they sweat, can we imagine what that smell will be like in these animals in the middle of the desert? The donkey on which Jesus of Nazareth would ride would be no exception. So the disciples gave him the best saddle they had their own coats. In the same way, the people around them, they wanted to praise those who they considered that, humanly, it would be their new king of Israel who would evict the Romans from his lands. Therefore, with high expectations, they gave the best of themselves, although eight days later, they will condemn the Son of God.

"Many also spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them on the road."

Mark 11. 8

Today we would talk about the red carpet being extended to Jesus Christ. And it is that when we have the opportunity to try, see and have a life close to Christ, we lack details to thank him for all that he has done and for all that he is going to do in our future. A life completely dedicated to him is the least we usually do at best. In other cases, we may give part of our time from time to time. I am not here to decide how much we have to dedicate or do, but whatever we do, we have to give the best of each one of us, because at the end of the day, we are giving God the service that he deserves.

God bless you.

CHRISTIAN DEVOTIONAL -A CONCRETE FACT

CHRISTIAN DEVOTIONAL

A CONCRETE FACT

Let us stop looking in the wrong place, only in Christ will we find everything we need.

THE art of serving has to be learned, therefore it is something to be cultivated. In the Christian life, service is part of our lifestyle. Therefore, when God entrusts us with a concrete action, we will have to learn to differentiate between if it is once or if it has to be done continuously. For example, when the people of Israel sinned against God in the desert, they were attacked by snakes. As a result, God told Moses that he will lift a copper snake on a pole, when some of them suffered an attack and was bitten, by looking at the copper snake they were healed and cured. The problem arose that this copper serpent was for a specific time, but the people of Israel turned that contraption into an element of the sanctuary and it was not until four centuries later in Josiah's reform that this copper serpent was not eliminated. In the Christian life, we make the same mistake, on many occasions God gives us an order for a specific moment, but we make it eternal, we simply make it common, we make it part of our lifestyle.

And if someone were to say to you: Why do you do that? say that the Lord needs it, and then He will give it back."

Mark 11. 3

God himself, in the person of Jesus Christ, gave specific orders to the disciples about what they should do in a possible unknown population among people who did not know who they were. Let me boldly extrapolate this verse to today: Jesus Christ asks a couple of his disciples to take the neighbour’s car without asking permission, much less borrowing it. The only solution he gives them is: if someone asks them why are they taking the car? Say: why does God need it! And they, in their eagerness, loyalty and faith in God, go and take the car and say: “We will return it!

"They went, and found the colt tied outside the door, at the bend in the road, and they untied it."

Mark 11. 4

In the kingdom of heaven we do not have secondary roles, in the kingdom of Christ, we are all important for its extension. The main role will always be God's, because he is: "the author and finisher of faith" and all we have to do is obey God. The disciples probably returned the donkey and did not take another and another donkey again with the excuse: "God needs it." This was a concrete and exact fact. This was not an act for life. We have to learn to have a very close relationship with the Spirit of God and thus obey him every time he gives us an order, acting on a concrete fact.

God bless you.
